How to read MICR 686047252
686: the city code. It usually follows the first digits of the area's PIN code; here it is Ernakulam.
047: the bank code, the same for every branch of Catholic Syrian Bank in cheque clearing.
252: the branch code within that city and bank.
The MICR is printed in magnetic ink at the bottom of every cheque leaf, between the cheque number and your account ID. It is not needed for NEFT, RTGS, IMPS or UPI, which use the IFSC (CSBK0000068 for this branch).
Before you deposit or write a cheque
Check that the MICR on the cheque matches the branch printed at the top of the leaf.
